An Evening with Terry Cooke, Nov 20, 2017

This is an invitation to come hear former Margaret’s Choir Soprano talk about her book A Union of People and Song: A Tribute to Einar Nordstrom on November 20 at 7 pm.

Some of you are not from Margaret’s Choir but friends of mine who may be interested. Please come & join us for a relaxed & interesting evening. Snacks & beverages will be served. Please RSVP. If there is someone you think may like please invite them. Please have them RSVP too.

This compilation of memories, photographs, and poetry is a tribute to Einar Nordstrom who came to Canada looking for work only to find The Great Depression, poverty, hunger, and injustice towards workers. He became a labour leader devoting his life to defending the values of the working class and to preserving their history. His shop, The Record Centre in Thunder Bay, Ontario, became a safe place for music-loving youth in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Without him, Canada would have been a poorer place for both people and song.

Teresa-Lee Cooke’s poetry has appeared in Voices (The Lake Winnipeg Writers’ Group journal), Verse Afire, (The Ontario Poetry Society), and in The Winnipeg Free Press. She shared her work at FemFest 2013-2016 and with Wine and Words 2013. Teresa-Lee lived in Thunder Bay during her teens but has called Winnipeg home for many years. Einar Nordstrom’s kind influence will never be forgotten.

Terry’s Book Launch was at McNally Robinson last month during a Sunday choir rehearsal time. The time was not a choice for Terry. I was sorry to have missed it & so did you, so hoping you are able to join us on Monday, November 20, 2017 7pm at our home (993 Dorchester Ave.) for an opportunity to hear about Terry’s book & have a visit with Terry.

Hope to hear from you & see you on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 7pm.
