We are Silver Notes, a small choir recently formed from two even smaller choirs. We meet once a week to practice (currently Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm, with talk of moving the practices to Tuesday afternoons). We practice in the church hall of St James the Assiniboine church, located at 195 Collegiate (at Portage Ave). During the September-to-December season, our repertoire is made up of Christmas and Hanukkah pieces, and we perform these at retirement residences and personal care homes in late November and December. Our director is Marilyn Mensforth, and the talented Charmaine Bacon accompanies our singing on the piano. During Marilyn’s absences, Charmaine directs the choir and our pianist is Annica Warkentine.
As a result of health and other issues, we have recently lost many of our tenors to the point where we only have one tenor currently singing with the choir. This, of course, puts the existence of the entire choir into jeopardy – hence this message. If you know of a tenor who would enjoy singing with a small but welcoming and talented group, please encourage them to contact Marilyn Mensforth at 204-783-0860. Our first practice will be held on September 5.
